Hart, 1855, third (large) octavo edition. Full brown morocco, boards ruled and stamped in blind, with dentelles. Gilt titled spines, gilt page edges. iv, 333, [1, blank]; xvii, [1, blank], [9]-290; iv, [17]-392 pp. Hand colored lithograph plates printed and colored by J.T. Bowen, all 120 accounted for - 40 in vol. I, 47 in vol. II, 33 in vol. III. First octavo editions appeared between 1848 to 1850. Very rare.
General shelf wear to edges and highlights. Pages clean and binding(s) tight, no stray marks or notations apart from vol. I with a penciled price from an old book seller. One colored plate missing tissue guard.
