359: A FINE CARVED STELLA MUSIC BOX WITH DRAWER ON STAND
The Stella Grand by Mermod Freres in mahogany case with relief carved front panel and lower drawer is accompanied by a conforming disc storage cabinet on cabriole legs, the double comb movement with moderator plays 17.25 inch discs and is serial numbered 4200, a celluloid retailer's tag for Jacot & Son New York is tacked to the interior. Jacot was most likely the maker of the case. The model is Mahogany number 168.
The associated stand of aniline stained wood has an overhanging top with cove molding over three drawers and three sides with raised panels, all on cabriole legs ending in carved paw feet.
Also included is Bowers, Q. David, Encyclopedia of Automatic Musical Instruments, The Vestal Press, New York, 1979.
Measures 14 x 20.5 x 29.25 and the stand is 31.75 x 27.75 x 30 inches.
Very good working condition. Visit our site for a an audio/video presentation. The music box cabinet is in very good original condition, there are no issues of damage or repair, light wear at some edges and minor effects of age and use on the high points. There are no broken or repaired teeth.
The stand retains an old, probably original, finish, perhaps an over varnish having heavuly alligatored surface and displays heavy wear on the top as shown. There are no issues of damage or repair.
