83: A FIGURAL WHALE CAST IRON SHOOTING GALLERY TARGET

The early 20th century knockdown target with folky depiction of overall form, flukes and open mouth, and exceptional surface of dry park paint textured and patinated from lead bullets in the way only shooting gallery targets can be. The construction suggests an attribution to William F. Mangels Co of Coney Island who often employed nautical themes in his galleries.

An identical example is pictured on page 16 (Figure 1.10) of Sellers' book.
Displayed on custom iron stand.
Measures 5 x 11.5 inches, excluding stand.
Very good condition throughout, no damage, repair or heavy wear.
