A very unusual decorated example from this pottery inscribed by scratch through the Albany slip glaze 'Mrs. Hy Harnsburger.' The scratched squiggle at the neck is in itself very unusual for works from this pottery, the inscription adds another layer of rarity, stenciled numeral 5 and stamped maker's mark of EDWARDS & MINISH, CALHOUN, MO.

The HARNSBERGER BIOGRAPHIES for Henry County, Missouri lists a local merchant named Hiram H. Harnsberger who entered the mercantile business in Calhoun in 1859.
Measures 16 x 9.5 inches.
Two large chips at the rim and two large hairlines. There are no other chips, cracks or repairs.
