4: LUIS JIMINEZ COLOR LITHO DENVER AIRPORT MUSTANG STUDY

Luis Jimenez (1940 - 2006)
Mustang (1994)
The lithographic study for a statue that greets travelers at the Denver airport is signed in pencil by the artist along the lower edge and numbered 12 from an edition of 40 lower left.

The 32 foot tall, 9000 pound rearing figure at the Denver airport with its illuminated red eye is officially named Blue Mustang. Unofficially, it's often called Blucifer for both its demonic appearance and its back story. The commission not only went over budget by double and took a decade longer to finish than planned, the sculptor lost his life when a section of it fell on him severing an artery in his leg.
Image measures 39 x 29 with a framed size of 52.5 x 42.5 inches.
Very good to fine condition, the full untrimmed sheet, not laid down, no damage, stain, puncture or repair; framed to archival standards in acid free mounts.
Provenance: The Estate of Georgia and Jack Olsen.
