5: MARTIN LEWIS (1881-1962) PENCIL SIGNED AQUATINT

Martin Lewis (1881-1962)
Which Way? (1932)
The fine aquatint etching from an edition of 53 prints or fewer is signed by the artist in pencil below the image lower right. An exceptional example of American printmaking with its myriad textures and depictions of lit surfaces beneath stars in the nighttime sky. A network of overhead power lines seems to allude to paths past, present and future. The strong, successful impression of this particular print gives it an exceptionally rich velvety burr.
Image measures 10 x 15.5, sheet size 14.25 x 19, the frame is 19.75 x 25 inches.
Very good to fine clean condition, the full untrimmed sheet, not laid down, no damage, stain, puncture, scratch, crease, wave, pucker, foxing, toning, smudging, soiling or repair. There are no condition issues to report. This work is framed to archival standards in acid free mounts.
Provenance: A private second generation Kansas Collection. Purchased from the Old Print Shop, New York, New York.
