RARE LEAVENWORTH. LAWRENCE & GALVESTON RR LANTERN

1: RARE LEAVENWORTH. LAWRENCE & GALVESTON RR LANTERN

A rare and important early Kansas railroad artifact.

The lantern with nickel plated brass frame having hoop bail handle mounted to the ventilated bell top, pierce ventilated band below the font just above the bell bottom base, stamped mark of C. T. HAM MFG CO 39 on the underside of the foot. The clear glass extended lip globe with copper wheel engraved designation of L.L & G. by hand, presumably for the Leavenworth, Lawrence and Galveston Railway, the first to operate in the state of Kansas south of the Kaw river beginning November 1, 1867.
Very good condition, noting overall minor oxidation, cap dents, darkened finish; the globe displays considerable chipping around the majority of the bottom rim, there are no other chips, cracks or repairs.
