16: QUEENSLAND AUSTRALIAN RAILROAD LOCOMOTIVE NUMBER PLATE

The heavy brass plate of rectangular form with convex corners, high outer rim and cast No 662 in high relief.

This plate was purchased from the New South Wales Rail Transport Museum in 1964 by Raymond Johnson of Wakefield, Kansas. Mr. Johnson was a fireman on the Union Pacific in the 1950s, which is about when he began collecting railroadiana. Steve Cregut purchased the remains of his collection around the turn of the last century. The collection of keys in this auction, and other items seen with old colored paper tags, are from the Johnson collection.
Measures 6.5 x 17.5 x 0.75 inches.
Great original condition with dark patina and thick scale on the surface, no damage or repair.
