JOSEPH VORST (1897 - 1947) RARE LITHO: BENTON FAMILY

20a: JOSEPH VORST (1897 - 1947) RARE LITHO: BENTON FAMILY

Joseph Paul Vorst (1897 - 1947)
The Benton Family. (Circa 1940.)
This rare lithograph, signed by the artist in pencil below the image lower right, is from an unknown edition. Two different examples have been offered in these rooms. Otherwise, no other record of this print can be found.

Noting that Thomas Hart Benton's daughter Jessie was born in 1939 and his son, 13 years earlier, their portrayal in this composition suggests the timeline to be around 1940.

Vorst and Benton met in the 1930s at the art colony in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri where they shared a studio for a time.
Image measures 13.5 x 11.75 with a framed size of 24 x 22.75 inches.
Very good to fine condition, the full untrimmed sheet, not laid down, no damage, stain, puncture or repair; framed to archival standards in acid free mounts. .
