8: EARLY 20TH C. DETROIT AND CLEVELAND STEAMSHIP PRINTS

The two large ticket office advertising pieces including a chromolithographic image on canvas after M.S. Geissler picturing two of the fleet's largest steamers displayed in the original frame with advertising. The image surface has considerable wear as shown.

Plus a fine image of the luxurious 203 foot City of Mackinac at night lit by a passing vessel, after the painting executed in 1896 by S.A. Whipple with legend below the image reading THE DETROIT & CLEVELAND STEAM NAV. CO. The Coast Line to Mackinac, THE MOST LUXURIOUS STEAMSHIPS ON THE GREAT LAKES, and displayed in a nice oak frame of the period with gilt gesso liner, presumed to be the original.
Canvas measures 18 x 29 with a framed size of 23.5 x 34.75 and image size of 17.25 x 27.25 with a frames size of 27.25 x 37.25 inches.
Apparently the condition of the City of Mackinac is in good intact condition with all margins and without damage, repair, punctures or tears; there is stain in the upper right margin and points of foxing around the margins. This work has not been examined outside the frame.

the other print on canvas without front glass has heavy surface wear and small holes as shown.
