The Northwest Coast Kwakiutl tribe carved and painted red cedar or alder wood mask with unidentified engraved artist's cipher inside is referred to as a Fool's mask.
Measures 10 x 7 x 6.5 inches.
Very good condition throughout, there are no issues of damage, repair or heavy wear.
Provenance: The estate of Morton and Estelle Sosland.In Kansas City, the Sosland family name is synonymous with both giving, and the arts. Of their many contributions to the community, 'The Soslands gave one of the nation's finest private collections of American Indian art to the Nelson-Atkins' museum (nelson-atkins.org).
