259: AN AFRICAN WOOD CARVING ATTRIBUTED TO BAMGBOYE

The large figure of a schoolboy holding a book is attributed to the Yoruba West Africa master carver Bamgboye of Odo Owa who lived from around 1895 to 1978.

Provenance: Morton and Estelle Sosland. The Soslands began acquiring examples of African and other tribal art in the 1960s, possibly earlier. Over the last two decades, objects of African Art with provenance to Morton and Estelle Sosland have been sold for up to six figures at major auctions in New York and California.
Measures 56 x 12 inches.
