The two redware plates decorated in the style of 17th century slip wares with liquified clay applique in high relief include one inscribed verso MADE EXPRESSLY FOR ESTELLE + MORTON SOSLAND by IRMA STARR.

Online sources attribute Ms. Starr's inspiration for these wares to period examples in the Nelson Atkins Museum's Burnap Collection of pre-industrial British pottery.
Each measures 10.25 inches in diameter.
Very good condition. There are no chips, cracks, repairs, scratches or areas of heavy wear.
Provenance: The estate of Morton and Estelle Sosland.In Kansas City, the Sosland family name is synonymous with both giving, and the arts. Of their many contributions to the community, 'The Soslands gave one of the nation's finest private collections of American Indian art to the Nelson-Atkins' museum (nelson-atkins.org).
