Traveling Triptych (1964)
The wood cabinet with hinged front in two sections, one being a mirror with sandblast etched orb - the other painted to depict a floating black orb, are positioned either side of a central light art field with yellow orb enclosing amber bulbs and a greater grid of white bulbs. Only the central area of amber bulbs light. No other aspect of the original Light Art display intent is known.
Measures 17 x 15.75 x 4 inches when closed.
As found. The Light Art display does not function due to the loss of vacuum tube function, at the very least.
Provenance: The estate of Morton and Estelle Sosland.In Kansas City, the Sosland family name is synonymous with both giving, and the arts. Of their many contributions to the community, 'The Soslands gave one of the nation's finest private collections of American Indian art to the Nelson-Atkins' museum (nelson-atkins.org). The content of this auction bears testament to their keen eye and varied interests. No property has been added; each lot here originates with the Sosland family and sells without reserve.
