270: BRYAN DAWES HAYNES (Born 1956) ACRYLIC ON CANVAS

Bryan Dawes Haynes (Born 1956)
Stone Harvesting (2012)
The Neo-Regionalist composition on canvas-wrapped panel signed in full by the artist and dated lower left documents men and a draft horse harvesting limestone for use in fence building.

Tags verso, including one from American Legacy Gallery in Kansas City, confirm the title. This work is published in the book New Regionalism: The Art of Bryan Haynes, Bryan Dawes Haynes, University of Missouri Press, 2016.

The labor of fence building is a common theme in the work of Bryan Haynes. Here, a limestone shelf exposed by a creek is removed from beneath a bed of bluebell wildflowers. The thick slab will somehow be cut into long, narrow sections of rock. A wagon loaded with quarried limestone posts is visible at the extreme right.
Canvas measures 24 x 36 with a framed size of 31.5 x 43.5 inches.
Very good original untouched condition. There are no issues of major scratches, losses, repairs, in-painting or touch-up.
