385: AN EARLY 19TH C. THEODOLITE OUTFIT ON TRIPOD

The lacquered brass outfit on four-screw leveling base with erect telescope on semi-circular rack graduated in both degrees and links with vernier readout over silver dial compass, two spirit levels, on a brass bound mahogany tripod. A fitted mahogany case with hand cut dovetail construction, most likely the original, is included.
Measures 60 x 10.75 x 4.75 inches. The theodolite instrument itself measures 8 x 10.75 x 4.75 inches.
Very good condition throughout, no damage, repair or heavy wear, working optics.
Provenance: The estate of a collector active in Historical Re-enactment, Surveying the Frontier, Scientific Instruments. Lewis and Clark.
