Knights at the Armourer's (Second quarter of the 19th century)
The oil on wood panel in the style of the French Rococo painters by Karoly Herbsthoffer is thought to have been painted around 1861. Herbsthoffer, who was born in Hungary, became a French citizen and died in Paris in 1876. He studied at the Vienna Academy under the Austro-Hungarian portrait painter Friedrich von Amerling. The work is signed lower left front and the period frame, presumably original, is mounted with a brass plaque.
Board measures 10.75 x 14 with a framed size of 19.5 x 22.5 inches.
Very good condition. There are no issues of scratches, losses or issues beyond scattered small bits and touches of inpainting as shown in the images under UV light.
