The Archive of B‑17 Pilot Lt. Bob Messersmith

Lt. Bob Messersmith flew 32 successful bombing missions before being shot down over Germany in 1944. He was held at Stalag Luft 1, the internment camp for pilots operated by the German Luftwaffe. His archive is comprised of an amazing range of correspondence, letters home, POW roster, artifacts, uniforms, A-2 jacket painted with 30 bombs, and much more – including a very rare collection of 30 bomb fuse tags with date, destination and degree of German resistance on most runs.
