48: WILLIAM HOGRATH ETCHINGS, FOUR TIMES OF DAY C 1800

After the four paintings by William Hogarth completed in 1736. These being MORNING, NOON, EVENING and NIGHT. The image titled MORNING, depicts a chaotic scene that includes an overturned carriage and a Hogarth statement on Freemasonry in the form of a man in Freemason's apron being doused with a chamber pot from an upstairs window. The image NOON is equally fraught with Hogarth humor and commentary in the slums of London in the 18th century, as are EVENING and NIGHT, where, "On one side of the road is a barber surgeon whose sign advertises Shaving, bleeding, and teeth drawn with a touch. Ecce signum! Inside the shop, the barber, who may be drunk,[33] haphazardly shaves a customer, holding his nose like that of a pig, while spots of blood darken the cloth under his chin." (Wikipedia).
Sight sizes measure 19.75 x 16.25 inches, in 29.5 x 24.75 inch frames.
Not examined outside of frames, appear to be in very good condition.
