192: A CHALK BILLY POSSUM FIGURE FOR TAFT 1908 CAMPAIGN

Billy Possum was to William Howard Taft what the Teddy Bear was to Theodore 'Teddy' Roosevelt. It was decided that William 'Big Bill' Taft, who weighed 300 pounds, needed a boost to his lacking personality. The Billy Possum character was intended to do just that but was a commercial flop.
