The Flying Merkel
Jeff Decker is a sculptor and student of motorcycle history. His 16-foot-tall, 5,000-pound bronze titled By The Horns located on the grounds of the Harley-Davidson Museum is his most famous work. He is responsible for numerous other works documenting historical motorcycles. Decker is Harley Davidson's official sculptor.This work is a cold-painted bronze sculpture depicting a flat track racer on a circa 1911 to 1915 Flying Merkel racing motorcycle on wood base simulating the wood deck that existed on both the indoor and outdoor tracks of the period. Signed on the wood base in two places.
Bronze measures 11.5 x 21.25 x 5.5 on a 6 x 28 x 13.75 inch wooden base.
Very good original condition. There are no issues of damage, repair or heavy wear.
