50a: A RARE, UNUSUAL COUNTRY STORE FIXTURE WITH PRODUCT

A 1910s era oak showcase with original labels advertising The Phoenix Sanitary Duster, manufactured by the Phoenix Duster & Mfg. Company, Augusta, Ga, each is made from glazed rope manila paper in tissue thickness. 'When shaken out it assumes a spherical shape 12 inches in diameter and is secured to a tinned handle.' A sort of 1910s forerunner to the modern day Swiffer, the Phoenix Duster was used to dust furniture etcetera while reaching tight corners and narrow crevices without scratching surfaces.
The tall, square case with original paper labels is fitted with an interior carriage operated by a top knob that rotates the hanging product priced at 39 cents each.
Showcase measures 31 inches to the top of the finial, 16.5 x 15 inches width and depth.
Very good original condition throughout. Some product remains in the original packaging, it appears that a maker's tag has been removed from the front of the case, original finish, labels and product in a case with unusual operable rotating apparatus.
