An oil on canvas laid to board, titled along the lower edge of the canvas, signed lower right. Born in Switzerland, Carl Gutherz came to the US as a child in 1851. This painting may have served as a preliminary work for one of his many mural commissions. Gutherz was instrumental in the founding of the Saint Louis. School of Fine Arts.
Board measures 11 x 13.5, frame is 20.5 x 23 inches.
