A LIFE-SIZED 19TH C ZINC CLASSICAL MAIDEN WITH URN

202: A LIFE-SIZED 19TH C ZINC CLASSICAL MAIDEN WITH URN

A 19th century American zinc architectural sculpture, the female figure in classical robes, her hair gathered and hanging in ringlets, holding aloft an urn that appears to have included additional components to complete a lamp or light. According to the consignor's estate representatives, this figure was purchased at an auction of property from the Missouri governor's mansion some time within the last 50 years. They were told that there was a pair of matching figures each side of an outside walkway or gate and that the pair was separated by two different buyers at auction. Today, an identical figure stands as a newel post light on the Grand Stairway of Missouri's governor's mansion in Jefferson City. Perhaps a single figure was returned to the mansion and installed in the interior for preservation. Missouri's Governor's mansion, located at 100 Madison St, Jefferson City, Missouri was built in 1871.
Measures 56.5 x 12 x 13 inches.
Good original condition, noting a temporary repair/replacement of a base trim element and the absence of some top lamp assembly, minor splits and effects of age. No major damage or repair.
