Two unsigned 19th century American School primitive paintings attributed to Augustus G Beller (1830 - 1902), who according to AskArt.com is most associated with Germany and Missouri. Again, according to AskArt, 'Only one painting by Augustus Beller is known, and it is owned by the State Historical Society of Missouri. He had a varied career as blacksmith, lawyer, judge, postmaster and mayor of Weston and in later years as a Baptist minister. 'This pair, in great rustic twig folk art frames, have descended through the Durkes and Crockett families of Weston, Missouri; passed down through the generations as the work of Augustus Beller. Beller's work is detailed in the book, Weston Missouri - Queen of the Platte Purchase: 1837-1900, which states that if Beller was especially fond the recipient, the pictured was framed in Paw Paw wood with burl decoration mounted at the corners.
Measures 14 x 15.5 inches and 12 x 15 inches.
Good original condition with some surface dust and grime.
