Lowry Brass Telemeter with mahogany case, marked 'The Lowry Mfg Co., Boston USA Pat 1887, '92 '96,' two calibrated 5 inch discs with fleur-de-lis and 32 points. Two pivoting brass arms with corresponding scales. Lowry Telemeter by Lowry Mfg Co., Boston, patd 1887, 1892 and 1896 with two calibrated 4 .5' brass discs divided 0-90 degrees in four quadrants, fleur-de-lis and thirty-two points corresponding to the points of a marine compass, one fixed, the other with read-outs and carriage designed to slide longitudinally in groove between two scales calibrated 0-18 in., both with pivoting brass arms and corresponding scales. Note: Patented by Ambrose Constantine Dunn of New York on May 5, 1896, pat no. 559,689; the purpose of the Telemeter was to ascertain the distance of a stationary object or the course of a vessel from two points of observation.
Case measures 3.75 x 6 x 27.75 inches overall.
