290: A COLLECTION OF NATIVE AMERICAN CARVED FETISHES

Four carvings include: 1) An unusual work by the award winning Isleta pueblo artisan Andy Abeita, the kiva carved from alabaster and embellished with etched sacred designs and three dimensional hand-carved ears of corn, the poles of a wooden ladder emerge from within as does a carved stone Tableta maiden wearing a turquoise and coral necklace and ceremonial dress, signed with Andy Abeita's hallmark.

2) An antler kachina dancer carving with antler button headdress inlaid with turquoise and coral cabochon beads as well as an abalone shell enhancer and an inlaid sunface on its headdress, signed 'RS ZUNI.'

3) A carving from the curved tip of an antler, tall headdress with inset turquoise eyes and jewelry, signed 'WS.'

4) The sacred Shalako dancer carved from Picasso marble, the applied horns, beak and eyes cut from turquoise, the collar and base are embellished with crushed turquoise, the robes are carved in detail with animal pelts draped down each side, two carved shell feathers decorating the back of its costume, affixed to a stone base painted as a pottery shard and signed 'Michael Sanchez ZUNI..' The Shalako dance is performed around the winter solstice after harvest.
Sizes range from 3.25 to 5 inches.
Good condition noting the absence of one feather on the back side, no other damage or repair.
