An impressive album of 73 photographs chronicling the evolution and history of Pullman railway cars.
The nine page typed explanation of the rationale, organization, and details of the album states that Pullman had no photography department until 1888, so photos of earlier cars were taken after 'they had been more or less changed or modernized. In all these photographs, however, the original characteristics remain.' Most images mounted to linen with typed specs/descriptions and dates on the reverse, plus a Pullman embossed blindstamp, captioned images reference the first car dating to 1865. A remarkable piece of railroad history!.
Most photographs measure approximately 8 x 10 inches.
Good condition overall, normal toning, wear, chips and overall wear.
