Self-portrait of the artist at his easel painting a canvas similar in composition to the second work in this lot, a landscape with buffalo. The artist's view while working at his easel is of buffalo grazing as with the companion piece in this lot. Both works are signed L.A. Gillette, the larger is on canvas, signed lower right and dated 1917, the smaller is on academy board and signed lower left.
Board measures 19 x 26, frame is 26 x 33 inches. And board measures 9.5 x 12.25, frame is 17 x 19.5 inches.
Very good condition throughout, no damage repair or heavy wear, small punctures in the larger canvas were professionally repaired for auction.
