235: NICKEL PLATE RAILROAD 'CITY OF CLEVELAND' RAILCAR SIGN

The Art Deco influence stainless steel passenger car door sign with intaglio black enamel lettering for the CITY OF CLEVELAND that ran on the Nickel Plate (New York, Chicago and St. Louis Railroad) between Chicago and Buffalo with stop in Cleveland.



The following information has been offered regarding this lot identified as CITY OF CLEVELAND passenger car door sign: 'Mr. Soulis, Your catalog item #235 has improperly identified Nickel Plate Road letter board 'City of Cleveland.' That is not a Nickel Plate letter board, the RR used a different style of lettering in blue on stainless steel. The attached photo shows the letter board that railroad car carried during its existence. I worked for the Nickel Plate and saw it pass every other day on its assignment between Chicago and Cleveland. I do not know what other RR may have had a 'City of Cleveland', perhaps a history of Pullman would supply that. I hope you will change the description so as not to mislead bidders.'
Measures 2.25 x 21.5 inches.
Very good condition throughout, no damage, repair or heavy wear.
