214: A VERY GOOD 18TH C. FRENCH MARQUETRY COMMODE

A fine marquetry and parquetry commode. The gray serpentine fossil marble top over bombé form cabinet fitted with three banded short drawers above two long graduated drawers delicately inlaid with elaborate court scenes, allegories, figures at a bath, figures within a landscape, chinoserie scenes and elaborate foliage; the drawer face fitted with finely cast acanthus handles and reticulated cartouche escutcheon at the key hole, each swelling bombé end inlaid with traditional parquetry designs, raised on cabriole legs.
Measures 36 x 56.5 x 31 inches.
Very good condition. Typical scattered bits of loss and or repair, no excessive repair, no major loss, no major damage or repair, age shrinkage obvious on each end panel, a nice example from the period.
