The two canvases framed together and displayed in a period frame and titled on brass plaque 'Quentin Metzys Louvain Flanders 1450-1529, Portraits of Himself & His Wife, Uffizi Gallery - From Li Pisani Gallery Florence.'

A second embossed brass tag reads. THE WR NELSON COLLECTION.

PROVENANCE: Pisani Gallery, Florence (stamp verso).

C. 1895 - Purchased by William Rockhill Nelson in Florence, Italy.

1897 - Contributed to the newly formed Western Gallery, Kansas City, MO.

1901 - Gifted with the entire Western Gallery to Kansas City Board of Education, in care of the Nelson Gallery of Art (formed in 1901).

1969-1970 distributed to an unidentified teacher in the Kansas City Public School System.

C. 2007 purchased from the unidentified teacher by Luanna Morgan of Kansas City and passed to her daughter.

Listed in the 1907 Western Gallery of Art List of Copies of Works by Old Masters.
Each canvas measures 19.5 x 17, frame is 38 x 49.5 inches.
Relined, replaced stretchers, professionally restored.
