215: LT. EPPERSON AAF UNIFORM GROUPING WITH WINGS

2nd Lt. Willard 'Bill' D. Epperson, 2537th AAF Base Unit, USAAF, CONUS.

Summer uniform consisting of shirt, with insignia including wings, pants (2), belt, tie, and visor cap. Head phones, Portrait photo, Military record, For Meritorious Service document, Basic Pilot Certificate, Pilot Certificate, and Pilot's Radio manual. Digest of Civil Air Regulations for Pilots; Large Portrait photo as Air Cadet with folder; 1 inch thick photo album with 52 photos, orders, clippings and miscellaneous other military items; Fundamentals of Elementary Flight Maneuvers; Air Traffic Rules; Civil Pilot Training Manual; and Assorted Wartime Orders.

Lt. Epperson joined the Missouri national Guard 8 October 1942, reaching the rank of Sergeant. He joined the active Army on 9 August 1943, He was enrolled in Flight School as an Aviation Cadet in the 57th Cadet Training Detachment, University of Alabama. From there he was moved to the San Antonio Aviation Cadet Center. He completed pilot training effective 23 December 1944. He attended Advanced Flying School at Foster Field, Texas, graduating 11 March 1945. From that period to his separation from active duty on 3 November 1945, he ferried aircraft to locations in the Caribbean and North Africa. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the American Defense Medal and the WWII Victory Medal. At war's end, he went on to achieve the rank of Captain.
