A VERY RARE ROCKING C.W. PARKER SHOOTING GALLERY TARGET

202: A VERY RARE ROCKING C.W. PARKER SHOOTING GALLERY TARGET

The rare and important conveyor target with unusual mechanism and traces of old paint on the horse. The hinged figure with legs, saddle, blanket, reins, and stirrups integrally cast with the horse is hinged at the waist and flips back when struck, essentially disappearing. Being a moving target with rocking motion, hitting the figure was not simple. Signed 'Man'd by C.W Parker Abilene KANSAS' on the back side. this piece dates to before 1910 as Parker moved operations to Leavenworth, Kansas after that date. Illustrated on page 31 (Figure 2.6) of Sellers' book and in many Parker advertisements and catalogs (including on page 27 of Parker's Catalog of Shooting Galleries, Gallery No. 32). This is the only example the Tuckers have seen or heard of in their 30 years of collecting.
Displayed on a custom iron stand.
Measures 11 x 15.25 inches, excluding stand.
Very good original condition with intact conveyor assembly, there are no issues of damage or repair, traces of original paint and good dry old surface.
