159: AN UNUSUAL FOLK ART PAINTED WOOD BALL TOSS KNOCK-DOWN

The unique and humorous circa 1900 carved and painted wood ball toss target figure at which baseballs or similar objects would have been thrown is created from a single plank of wood scroll cut in lollipop form with a primitive human face just above the hinged joint, the lower portion with paint decoration lettered DICK. As a ball toss game, the head would fold backward when struck.

Pictured on page 114 of Sellers' book (Figure 8.14). This is the only example the Tuckers have seen or heard of in their 30 years of collecting.
Measures 66 x 14 inches.
Very good original condition, there are no issues of damage or repair, light wear at some edges.
