222: AN EARLY 20TH C. SPINNING IRON TARGET WITH KNOCK DOWNS

This circular iron disc with eight blue lollipop-shape iron targets that disappear when struck looks more like a modern sculpture than an early 20th century shooting gallery target. The rotating pink disc with blue lollipop-shape targets would have been an eye-catching sight on the midway, and a challenge to shoot. A larger version of this scarce target made by William F. Mangels, also found in great old park paint, is also offered in this sale (lot 116). Illustrated on page 10 of Mangels catalog 15 (gallery 48). it is referred to as Rotating Disc with Lollipops Target by William F. Mangels Company, Coney Island, NY.

Pictured on page 19 of Sellers' book (Figure 1.16). Also pictured on the Doris Duke Mangels gallery, page 24 of Sellers' book (Figure 1.31) and illustrated on page 10 of Mangels catalog 15 (gallery 48).
Displayed on custom iron stand.
Measures 24.5 inches in diameter, excluding stand.
