169: TWO FOLK ART PAINTED CLOTH CARNIVAL KNOCKDOWN TARGETS

The pair of ball toss knockdown figures made from coated fabric with painted details over unglazed cotton cloth with painted lettering of 'Lightning' and 'Battle Axe', each has red cloth at the neck, the female has a head scarf and each is tacked to a found wood base. the period is circa 1920s.

Pictured in Sellers' book page 127 (Figures 8.35 and 8.36). This is the only example the Tuckers have seen or heard of in their 30 years of collecting.
Each measures 13.5 x 7 inches, excluding stand.
Very good original condition, there are no issues of serious damage or repair, the effects of age and exposure are shown.
