236: A MANGELS ROTATING SHOOTING GALLERY TARGET WITH PIPES

This spinning target with knockdown pipes by William F. Mangels Co. was found alongside a similar rotating target with lollipop targets, also offered in this auction (lots 116 and 222). The two may have come from the same shooting gallery. This target with thick old park paint would have also been a gallery centerpiece with its large size, eye-catching spinning motion and hinged cast iron smoking pipe knockdown targets that disappear when struck. A larger version is illustrated on page 8 of Mangels catalog 15 (gallery 46) and in the Doris Duke Mangels gallery on page 24 (Figure 1.31) of Sellers' book.
