A LARGE ROTATING FIVE LOBE 'PENTAGON' GALLERY TARGET

136: A LARGE ROTATING FIVE LOBE 'PENTAGON' GALLERY TARGET

This is a visually striking example of shooting gallery art whether viewed from front or back. The front is an arrangement of five red bullseyes floating on white around the red center - all in dry old park paint. The surface is alive with the visual effect of thousands of lead bullet strikes on painted iron that has aged for 100 years. The back side is an equally striking work of serendipitous abstraction in colored paints. Made by William F. Mangels, Coney Island NY, this target is pictured in a number of the firm's catalogs, including page 4 of Mangels catalog 20 in gallery 57. Purportedly previously owned by Steven Spielberg.

Pictured on page 18 of Sellers' book (Figure 1.14) and in the Sandy Chanty Mangels Gallery on page 25 of Sellers' book.
Measures 31.5 x 33 inches, excluding stand.
Outstanding surface, there are no issues of damage or repair.
