A RARE WURFFLEIN IRON OWL TARGET IN ORIGINAL PAINT

113: A RARE WURFFLEIN IRON OWL TARGET IN ORIGINAL PAINT

One of only three known examples of this target by William Wurfflein of Philadelphia, PA - this being the best example with its original folky painted feather detail and depiction of bright yellow eyes; signed in cast embossed letters along the front lower edge, pictured in Wurfflein's 1914 catalog, gallery 222.

Pictured on page 45 of Sellers' book (Figure 3.9).
Measures 14.5 x 7 inches, excluding stand.
Very good original condition, there are no issues of damage or repair, retains the disc back side, a surface unlike any other iron object of the period, created by hundreds of pellets over time and the resulting patination.
