62: A FINE 19TH C. FOLK ART FEDERAL SHIELD WITH 13 STARS

The scroll cut wood panel covered in canvas and painted in red and white vertical stripes below a blue reserve with thirteen applied wood stars in original silver paint, the reverse with canvas painted in wide horizontal red, white and blue bars, the blue with faint remains of hand painted stars and the whole framed in gold molding. A fine and rare example circa 1876.
Measures 30.25 x 26.5 x 0.5 inches.
Very good original condition, there are no issues of damage, in-painting or repair, light wear and scattered rubs on some surfaces and at some edges, very minor touch-up to the extreme top edge of some stars visible only under UV light, very minor.
