138: A TWELVE STAR AND THIRTEEN STRIPE AMERICAN FLAG QUILT

The red, 'white' and blue twelve star American flag quilt with thirteen stripes (the white is actually fine blue window pane print on white), a combination of hand and machine quilting in diagonal rows, white binding, muslin flour sack backing with a faint manufacturer's mark.

American flags with twelve stars and thirteen stripes are associated with the period 1861 - 1865.
Measures 46 x 72 inches.
Good condition, noting fading to the blue dyes in the star field as shown, light tatters along the binding, small scattered stains.
