Sara Shewell Hayden was an early 20th century award winning female artist of note. She traveled to Europe to paint with William Merritt Chase and other leading artists of the day and taught at a number of universities including the University of Nebraska. She exhibited widely, including shows in New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, and St. Louis. Signed lower left, board measures 10.5 x 13.25, frame measures 14 x 16.75 inches.
