96a: A RARE 18TH C. LOUIS XVI BERGERE WITH BOUT-DE-PIED

This 18th century duchesse brisée type arrangement from the period consists of a bergere of deeper, more canted chaise-like form and bout-de-pied in matching carved and painted wood frame displaying style elements of Louis XVI. Most duchesse brisée seating units are made up of three pieces, the arrangement seen here, plus a smaller hand carved bergere not present in this arrangement.

Both pieces in this lot are constructed using mortise, wood pegs, and other 18th century construction techniques, each hand carved frame is embellished with very old paint surface.

Duchesse brisée translates to 'broken duchess' and bout-de-pied translates to...'toe.'
Measures 40 x 28.5 x 39 with seat height of 20 ottoman is 20 x 30.5 x 24 inches.
Very good original condition, there are no issues of damage or repair, light to moderate wear at some edges and light stain.
