227: AN IMPRESSIVE HIGHLY POLISHED FRENCH SLATE MANTEL CLOCK

Th elaborate slate case with shallow incised carvings of bellflowers, beads and scrolls is of tower form with the circular case housing an unsigned brass plate time and strike movement fronted by a double-sunk dial ringed by intaglio carved slate chapter ring having gilded Roman numerals around the engine-turned center with exposed escapement having two ruby jewels, the case with two scrolling brackets facing a circular window revealing the gridiron pendulum suspending an Ellicott pendulum bob above a platform base with cove molding and incised carvings, raised on bun feet, complete with iron key and a custom made carrying case constructed from wood and topped by a solid carved wood handle.
Measures 18 x 16.5 x 5.5 inches.
