J AND J.W. MEEKS 'HENRY FORD' PATTERN FOUR-PIECE SET

81: J AND J.W. MEEKS 'HENRY FORD' PATTERN FOUR-PIECE SET

A very fine matched set of four laminated rosewood chairs carved in the 'Henry Ford' pattern. The two arm chairs measure 46 inches high with seats that measure 26.5 x 26 inches. The two matching side chairs measure 41 inches high and the seat measures 19 x 19 inches. Circa 1860. A slight variation in the upholstery treatment of one.
Very good strudy condition throughout. One side chair has a crude old repair to the flower blossom drop at the front side of the crest carving, this same side chair has a 1/4 inch square chid from the front laminate right side scroll halfway up the right side and a reinforced horizontal split on the skirt right side. These are found with flashlight and close inspection. The other side chair has no issues and both are very sturdy and show very well with perfectly clean upholstery and old alligatored finish probabaly an old overvarnish at one time. One arm chair has noticeable chipping to the carving of one raised scroll on the skirt and a single chip on the opposite scroll of that same skirt decoration. Some very minor normal vertical separation are visible from the front on the right side, one small piece of wood added in a triangular shape near the skirt and leg intersection front leg. One extremely minor chip backside of the very top fleur-de-lis carving. This chair presents very well, has perfect upholstery and is very sturdy.
The other arm chair has an old repair and filled area approximately 1/2 inch in diameter at the back of the left arm, on the skirt just below the seat is a triangular piece of wood added near the front where the front leg joins the front skirt, very sturdy repair at the front of the left arm where it joins the ornate upright and a very sturdy less noticeable repair on the opposite side arm in the same place.
This chair presents very well, has perfect upholstery and is very sturdy. Both arm chairs in old finish with some alligatoring.
