A George III style bronze mirror attributed to Edward F. Caldwell (1851 - 1914), New York. The oval plate mirror within a bronze ribbon and bead cast bronze frame with opposing figural female sphinx figures on ribbon and bead plinths' scrolling flowering acanthus and swags comprise the outer frame topped by an Adam style ram's head urn finial; an inverted palmette pendant terminal on the frame bottom.
The esteemed firm of Caldwell and Co was founded in New York in 1895. They are well known for their neo-classical designs in bronze and other metals. They served an affluent clientele in the early part of the 20th century with high quality decorative arts similar to this, examples of their work are highly sought after. Measures 57 x 31 inches. Provenance: The Joseph Candioto Trust. We ship in-house for all items with the exception of very large and or very fragile pieces and some international shipments.
Good intact condition. The gilding is no longer present and there have been reinforcements to the top and bottom crest and pendant. No major damage, no replacements, no elements are lost.
