275: AN EARLY 20TH C. REGENCE STYLE MARBLE TOP COMMODE

Shaped marble top with projecting corners over conforming mahogany case with serpentine sides, frieze with applied scrolling guilloche, over a pair of doors opening to reveal shelved interior, further flanked by doors all featuring gilt rosettes and shaped gilt-metal mounted reserves of a diaper pattern of inlaid fruitwood, sides of conforming design within gilt bronze frame, canted stiles with gilt Bacchanalia herms upon chutes, above the shaped apron with rocaille, flowers, C-scrolls and acanthus mounts, the whole raised on square tapering legs terminating in gilt bronze hairy paw feet. Fitted with circular laurel pulls. Measures 35 x 73 x 23 inches. Provenance: The Joseph Candioto Trust. Three panels have been removed from the back so that the piece could be used as a bar. Otherwise good without damage, repair or other alterations.
