312: AN EARLY 20TH C. JAPANESE ELEPHANT FORM SEAT

A low seat in the form of an elephant, constructed of thick cardboard formed to shape and covered by a canvas-like material covered in a thick coating with colors. Purchased from the Museum of the World auction conducted by Christie's on the museum premises in Tulsa, Oklahoma, 1981. The catalog description from that sale reads: "the drowsy old animal with glass eyes painted white with his head held low to the right, the saddle cloth decorated with dragons, flowers and tassels." Measures 20 x 31 x 24 inches. Provenance: The Joseph Candioto Trust. We ship in-house for all items with the exception of very large and or very fragile pieces and some international shipments.
