34: AN ANTIQUE 1851 GREEN AND RED APPLIQUE QUILT

Sixteen applique roses surrounded by rose buds and a rose bud border with embroidery, intricately hand-quilted, quilted notation 'John M. & Mildred M. Ellis, Sept. 1st 1851, Troy Mo.' John M. Ellis was active in Lincoln County Missouri politics in the 1870s. Measures 92 x 84 inches.

The binding is worn through in places, fugitive dyes in the red fabrics have eroded away leaving holes behind. Losses to the embroidered stems.
